A New Approach to Inpatient Care
The Shores is the first facility of its kind in Connecticut to offer a welcome center for people stable enough to bypass the emergency room. We assist adults living with mood, anxiety, and trauma-based disorders, including:
- Major depressive disorder
- Generalized anxiety disorder
- Panic disorders
- Bipolar disorder
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Because individuals with similar conditions are treated together, there are fewer disruptions and more opportunities for meaningful connection. Unlike a traditional hospital setting, The Shores provides a serene environment centered on recovery, with a focus on emotional and social healing.
Treatment and Therapies
Your treatment at The Shores includes a range of evidence-based therapies designed to support your recovery.
Individual and group therapy sessions use proven approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help you better understand and manage your thoughts, emotions and behaviors. When appropriate, therapies like eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) may also be used to help you process trauma and move forward in recovery.
Group therapy helps you build coping skills, strengthen connections and support emotional and social healing. Your care includes individualized medication assessment and treatment with a psychiatric provider.
Support During and After Treatment
A strong support system can make a big difference in long-term recovery. At The Shores, we work closely with your family, caregivers and the rest of your support network whenever possible so they understand your care plan and how to support your progress.
As you prepare for discharge, our team will connect you to the next appropriate level of care within The Shores continuum of care; other outpatient services provided by Hartford HealthCare, or care by clinicians that meet your needs within your local community, ensuring a safe and supportive transition.
